Getting there is an adventure! The meandering route goes through the Leadville Mining District, State Wildlife Area, Aspen Groves and Pine Forests. The willows along the valley make a perfect environment for observing wildlife. Bring your four-wheel drive vehicle that is suitable for when the road narrows and the very rocky and rutted nature of the road. An ATV, UTV, or small SUV would be best. Once you get to the end of where motorized travel is allowed, it’s about 1.5 miles on foot. Make sure that you take in the views behind you as you travel up the road.
