The Elkhead land consists of 396 acres more or less and has been in the same family for generations. Approximately 250 acres are being farmed with approximately 40 acres of dryland alfalfa and the rest being planted into winter wheat. The land and area are excellent for both deer and antelope and does qualify for landowner vouchers.

The rest of the acreage consists of sagebrush covered draws sloping south towards Elkhead Reservoir. Cottonwood Creek goes through the property providing water to livestock and wildlife. There is also a good running spring that goes into Cottonwood Creek.
The Elkhead Reservoir State Park is a Colorado state park borders the land. The park surrounds and includes the 900 surface acre Elkhead Reservoir.The reservoir is stocked with primarily warmwater fish species, including largemouth bass, black crappie, and bluegill.[2] Activities at the park include both non-electric and electric camping, fishing, boating, wildlife viewing, and hiking. As of 2021,Hunting in the area is also excellent for deer, elk and antelope. Forest service access points are close by.

The land is in game management unit 4 which provides over the counter elk opportunities and landowner vouchers for both deer and antelope.
